Book Review: The Prayer of Freedom by Beatty Carmichael

A Surprising Guide to Inner Healing That Actually Works!

I just finished The Prayer of Freedom book by Beatty Carmichael, and it completely caught me off guard — in the best possible way. I wasn’t sure what to expect at first. The title made me think it was going to be heavy on religious doctrine, or just another “pray your pain away” kind of thing. But I was wrong. Like, way wrong.

This book is something else entirely.

Not Religion. Spiritual Law.

Let’s start here, because I think it’s what makes the book so powerful—and honestly, so approachable for pretty much anyone.

Carmichael isn’t trying to convert you. In fact, he goes out of his way to say this process isn’t about religion at all. It’s based on spiritual laws—unseen principles that operate kind of like gravity. Whether or not you believe in them, they affect you.

He breaks it down like this: just like physical laws govern the world around us (like gravity or electromagnetism), there are spiritual laws that influence what’s going on inside us—our health, our emotions, even our relationships. Most people don’t know how to work with those laws. That’s why, despite therapy, meds, affirmations, and good intentions, the pain or addiction or anxiety still sticks around.

Carmichael argues (pretty convincingly, I might add) that a lot of those lingering struggles—chronic pain, emotional torment, anxiety, depression, relationship dysfunction—often have a spiritual root. And until you address that root, you’re just managing symptoms.

Sound kind of out there? It did to me too. But then I kept reading…

A Real Process That Gets Real Results

This isn’t a woo-woo “just recite affirmations, and everything will change” kind of book. It’s super structured, step-by-step. Carmichael introduces what he calls the Prayer of Freedom, which is really more like a guided spiritual self-clearing than what we typically think of as “prayer.” I happen to be a shamanic medicine practitioner, so this concept is right up my alley.

The process helps you identify specific roots behind your pain—spiritual “legal rights,” as he calls them—and then walk through a guided prayer to remove them. It’s like pulling the plug on the power source of the issue. And here’s the kicker: across thousands of sessions, Carmichael says the method has shown an almost 90% success rate with things like chronic pain, anxiety, trauma, and addictions.

He’s not just tossing out random stories either—he includes actual examples of people who used the process and got better. Like Whitney, who had been suffering from hip and sciatic pain for years. She prayed using this method, and days later, texted to say it was gone.

And then there’s the story of Rob and Lilly, a couple who had been fighting daily for ten years—even after five years of marriage counseling. One session with the Prayer of Freedom, and their relationship transformed. Overnight. They started doing “normal” couple things again—cooking, laughing, just being together in peace.

This isn’t one isolated miracle. Carmichael says 9 out of 10 people he’s guided through the process experience complete freedom from their issues. Whaaaaaat?

Spiritual Roots of Pain? Yep, It’s Really a Thing

One of the more controversial (but fascinating) parts of the book is the idea that not all pain is medical. That’s not to say Carmichael is anti-doctor. But he challenges the assumption that all chronic pain or mental health issues are purely biological. Sometimes, he argues, they’re spiritual in origin—and that’s why traditional approaches don’t work.

He shares story after story of people who tried everything—counseling, medication, surgery—and only found relief after using the Prayer of Freedom. One woman with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue for 20 years was totally healed the same day she went through the prayer process. That was two decades ago… and she’s still free.

As a wellness practitioner myself, I am a big fan of having a very large toolbox to help people. This is another amazing tool in the box, especially for those who have tried oh so many traditional approaches to solve their physical suffering.

The Inner Mechanics: Spiritual Housecleaning

The book goes deep into the concept of “legal rights”—which sounds technical but really just refers to the spiritual permission we may have unknowingly given for pain or torment to remain in our lives. These legal rights are usually tied to unrepented actions or unresolved wounds.

And here’s the brilliant part: you don’t have to remember every little thing you’ve ever done wrong. Carmichael walks you through a process of asking God (or the Higher Power, Universe, etc.) to reveal what needs to be addressed. And then, you handle it. Right there in the prayer.

It’s actually really simple. Think: release, forgiveness, repentance, and freedom. All wrapped in a personal, guided flow that feels safe and clear.

A Book You Don’t Just Read—You Do

Let’s be honest—most self-help or spiritual books sound great while you’re reading, but are hard to apply. This one’s different. It’s less about passive reading and more like sitting down with a friend who walks you through a real, tangible process.

He even adds videos throughout the book via QR codes, so you can listen to him guide you through it all.

There’s a great moment in the book where he says, “It will work whether you understand why it works or not”. That stuck with me. He’s not asking for blind belief—he’s just saying, “Try it. See what happens.” I am a big fan of not overthinking things.

Get your nose out of the DSM and do some work!

Not Just for Christians

Even though Carmichael uses the Bible as the foundation for explaining the spiritual laws, he makes it clear that the process works for anyone. Christian, shamanic practitioner, energy healer, agnostic, or “spiritual but not religious”—it doesn’t matter. The key is that the spiritual realm operates according to laws, not belief systems.

There’s even a section that echoes shamanic teachings—where he talks about unresolved wounds creating openings for spiritual torment and how healing comes from addressing the unseen cause. That’s textbook energy medicine right there.

So yeah, if you’re into indigenous practices or energy healing, this book will feel very aligned.

Okay, But Does It Actually Work?

Honestly? After reading dozens of these stories, seeing how consistent the outcomes were, and understanding the structure of the method, I have to say: I think it does work.

The real question is, are we willing to give it a try?

I mean, let’s be real. If you’ve been dealing with something—chronic pain, relationship cycles, anxiety, emotional heaviness—and nothing has helped, what’s the harm in trying a spiritual approach?

You don’t need to believe in a particular doctrine. You just need to be open enough to try the process. And Carmichael gives you everything you need to do it. Step by step.

Final Thoughts: This Book Might Just Be What You’ve Been Searching For

If you’ve been praying and not seeing answers… if you’ve been in pain for too long… if therapy and meds and everything else just hasn’t touched the root…

Read this book. But don’t just read it—do it.

I’ll leave you with this: I started the book curious. I ended it changed. Maybe it’s your turn next!

Summary

In The Prayer of Freedom, Beatty Carmichael offers a clear, science-based approach to spiritual healing. Rather than relying on doctrine, he unpacks the predictable laws of the spiritual realm—laws that influence our physical, emotional, and relational wellbeing far more than most people realize. With an 87% success rate helping people overcome chronic pain, anxiety, addictions, trauma, and deeply rooted emotional torments, Carmichael provides a practical, step-by-step method that readers can apply immediately. The result is a grounded, experiential guide that bridges the gap between spiritual science, inner healing, and real-world transformation.

  • Many physical torments have spiritual roots that most people never consider. Chronic pain, anxiety, addiction, trauma, relationships in conflict—these often have a hidden spiritual driver. When that root is removed, people frequently experience relief far faster than expected.
  • This isn’t about religion—it’s about spiritual laws. The prayer process works for Christians, spiritual practitioners, and even atheists because it follows predictable laws within the spiritual realm, not a belief system.
  •  It is a repeatable, step-by-step method. The book walks readers through identifying the root cause of their suffering and applying a targeted process to remove the spiritual “charge” behind it.
  • The results are measurable and consistent. Across thousands of sessions, the process has shown an 87–90% success rate in issues like chronic pain, migraines, anxiety, trauma, addictions, and emotional torment.
